World Star is further differentiated from the first eight worlds in that it has Moon Coins instead of Star Coins. Unlike World Mushroom and World Flower, this world is unlocked after defeating Bowser rather than via cannons, much like how World 9 and World S are unlocked upon defeating the final bosses of their respective games. It is blocked by another sign that requires nine Star Coins to remove it, and it gives the player a Super Star for their item slot. Also at the beginning of the world is a Toad House, which will appear after all Star Coins have been found. Blocking the levels in the world is a Star Coin Sign, which requires 90 Star Coins in order to open the path. There are seven numbered levels, a Rainbow Course, and a castle that has Dry Bowser as the boss. It has nine levels and a hidden Toad House.

World Star (or Star World ) is the third special world and the ninth and final world that appears in New Super Mario Bros. New Super Mario Bros.Not to be confused with Star World.This castle is filled with lava pits, and three way corridors, of which only one is the correct path. It shoots the player straight into World 5. This is a mushroom level that mostly has moving coins and blocks. This tower features metallic fences that the player can cling on. Fire Bros., Fire Snakes, Venus Fire Traps and Spike Tops are common enemies in this level. This level is a pitch dark cave, which is dimly lit by lanterns. There are areas with platforms infested with Koopas and Spikes.

This level is filled with barrels and Spikes. This level takes place in the desert and is the first level with sand geysers.
